Roleplayer Mode
A playstyle that protects you from murder: what it blocks, what stays open, Auction fees, quest XP, instance rewards, bail, and where to manage it.

Roleplayer Mode is an alternative playstyle for adventurers who want to explore Karadiyar without the constant threat of assassination. While the Mode is on, other players cannot murder you and cannot place new tracks on you. In return you accept several combat and economy trade-offs.
Important naming note: the game calls this Roleplayer Mode. When someone tries to kill a protected player, they see Roleplayer protection, not a joke about "roleplaying".
What stays open
Roleplayer Mode does not close honourable PvP. You can still use the Fights screen, challenge nearby warriors, fight bandits, and join Arena. Only the murder system (Murder) is gated.
Core protection
While Roleplayer Mode is on:
- Other players cannot kill you through murder. The kill attempt is rejected with Roleplayer protection.
- Other players cannot start a new track on you.
- You cannot kill another player through murder. If you confirm a kill attempt anyway, Roleplayer Mode turns off first, then the kill proceeds against a non-protected target.
- You can still track other players. Tracking others does not turn the Mode off by itself.
Existing tracks that were already successful can remain until they expire naturally. Roleplayer Mode only blocks new tracks against protected targets.
Pros and cons
Advantages
- You cannot be murdered while the Mode is on.
- Death pressure from assassination is removed.
- Honour fights and Arena remain available.
Disadvantages
- You cannot murder anyone while the Mode is on (a confirmed kill attempt turns it off).
- You cannot be newly tracked, but you also play under economy and event limits below.
- You cannot join new castle sieges, plunder raids, or wars.
- Auction Hall listing fees cost 1.5× the normal fee.
- Quest and instance XP is reduced by 20%.
- Instance item rewards are one level lower (minimum level 1).
- If Roleplayers are the majority of a group-quest party, the top reward tier is locked.
Siege, plunder, and war
While Roleplayer Mode is on:
- You cannot join a castle siege (attack or defence).
- An overlord in Roleplayer Mode cannot start a siege.
- You cannot join a war army.
- You cannot take part in plunder robberies.
Existing participation that started before you enabled the Mode is not forcibly cancelled mid-event. The restriction applies to new joins and new siege starts.
Auction Hall fee (×1.5)
The Auction Hall stays fully open for buying and selling.
- Listing fee while Roleplayer Mode is on: normal fee × 1.5.
- Buying from other players has no extra Roleplayer tax.
- Alliance-only listings that already charge 0 listing fee stay free.
The in-game Auction screen shows a short Roleplayer note next to the fee when the Mode is active.
Quest XP (−20%)
Roleplayer Mode reduces experience from:
- Attack Quests
- City, time, and hunting quests
- Group Quests / instances
The penalty is 20% less XP (`× 0.8`). Other reward types (gold, materials, skills, health) are unchanged by Roleplayer Mode.
If you also receive the alliance home-city 1.5× XP bonus, the game applies alliance bonus first, then the Roleplayer penalty. In the app these appear as separate banners so you can see both effects.
Travel, war, daily top, and wheel XP are not reduced by Roleplayer Mode at this time.
Instance item rewards (−1 level)
On group quests / instances, wearable item rewards for Roleplayers are inserted at one level lower than the rolled reward (never below level 1).
Mount upgrades from special outcomes (for example Rescue mount rewards) follow their own mount rules and are not treated as a normal item-level drop in this penalty.
Group quests: majority Roleplayer lock
When a group quest resolves, the game counts how many real players in the party currently have Roleplayer Mode on. Bots count as non-Roleplayer.
If Roleplayers are the majority (more than half of the real-player roster):
- Outcome tier 4 is locked for that run.
- The best possible outcome becomes tier 3.
This stops a Roleplayer-heavy party from claiming the rarest top-tier loot while enjoying murder protection. Solo Roleplayers in a mixed party still get their personal XP and item-level penalties even when the majority lock does not trigger.
Turning the Mode off
Roleplayer Mode turns off when:
- You manually disable it in Settings → Roleplayer Mode.
- You confirm a murder attempt against a non-protected target. The Mode closes at the start of that attempt (after validations and kill cooldown are acquired), then combat continues.
When the Mode turns off, a 30-day cooldown starts before you can enable it again.
Turning the Mode back on
All of these must be true:
- Roleplayer Mode is currently off.
- The 30-day cooldown has finished.
- You have zero unpaid kills (bail not yet paid).
New characters usually start with Roleplayer Mode on. After rebirth, the new life also resets to Roleplayer Mode on. Bot characters never use Roleplayer Mode.
Bail (kefalet)
Each successful murder you are responsible for (you killed someone, or a backfire made you the killer) counts as an unpaid kill until you pay bail.
- Bail cost: 25,000 gold per kill.
- You pay one kill at a time (no bulk payment).
- The game asks for confirmation before each payment.
What happens to the gold:
- 25,000 gold is always removed from you.
- The game looks up the victim's graveyard entry closest to that kill time and checks for an heir.
- If a living, active heir character exists, the 25,000 gold is transferred to that heir.
- If there is no heir, or the heir is dead / missing, the gold is simply removed (burned). It is not returned to you.
Paid kills no longer block re-enabling Roleplayer Mode and no longer count toward your public unpaid kill total.
Where to manage Roleplayer Mode in the app
- Settings → Playability → Roleplayer Mode: open the dedicated screen. The Settings row shows On (secondary) or Off (danger).
- Character screen: while the Mode is on, a Roleplayer bar with a book icon and chevron opens the same screen.
- Kill screen: while the Mode is on, a short note and link open Roleplayer settings. Attempting a kill asks you to confirm that the Mode will turn off.
- Roleplay screen tabs:
How others recognize Roleplayers
- Profile badge: Roleplayers show a Roleplayer badge on their profile (separate from premium / admin badges).
- Chat: messages from Roleplayers show a book icon next to the sender name.
- Restricted screens (Kill, Auction, quests, siege, plunder, war) show the same book icon beside short Mode notes.
Practical tips
- If you mainly care about story, quests, and honour fights, keep Roleplayer Mode on and accept the XP / Auction trade-offs.
- If you plan to murder, pay bail for unpaid kills early and wait out the 30-day cooldown before relying on protection again.
- Before joining a Roleplayer-heavy group quest, remember the top reward tier may be locked for everyone in that run.
- Alliance city XP bonus and Roleplayer XP penalty both apply; read both banners on quest screens.
