Animal Taming measures how well you understand and command beasts. Good-side characters see a light taming icon; evil-side characters see a darker variant, but the skill works the same.
What it is for
- Mounts: Your mount level and travel comfort depend on animal care over time.
- Animal Taming quests: Repeatable training on the Animal Taming screen raises the skill steadily.
- City and group quests: Many city duties and some group flows also grant Animal Taming progress.
- Dragon taming: At 90%+ Animal Taming, 90+ health, and 200 gold, you can attempt to tame a dragon in the Dragon Caves.
- Group quests: High taming is required for rescue missions involving the legendary White Horse.
- Dragonbreath crop: A supreme Dragonbreath harvest grants +10% dragon taming for one hour.
Dragon taming chance and timing
- Where: Only in Dragon Caves.
- Requirements: 90+ Animal Taming, 90+ health, 200 gold per attempt.
- Base chance: Around 10% once you are above 90 Animal Taming.
- With Dragon Food: Chance reaches around 40%.
- With Dragon Food + Horseshoe: Around 45%.
- With Dragon Food + Horseshoe + Dragon Taming buff (from farming crop): Can reach the 55% cap.
- Attempt frequency: If taming fails, next taming attempt opens after 24 hours.
- Dragon training cooldown: After training your dragon, next training is in 12 hours.
Dragon Types
Dragon taming can yield one of these five types:
- Blood Dragon: ATK 300, ARM 100, SPD 100
- Earth Dragon: ATK 100, ARM 300, SPD 100
- Frost Dragon: ATK 250, ARM 100, SPD 150
- Inferno Dragon: ATK 350, ARM 50, SPD 100
- Metal Dragon: ATK 300, ARM 150, SPD 50
These base profiles define your dragon's style; training later pushes attack, armor, and speed higher.
Dragon obedience
As your Animal Taming skill falls, your dragon obeys you less, and its contribution in combat drops with it.
Mount Types
Mount visuals and names depend on faction:
- Good side: Horse +1, Horse +2, Horse +3, White Horse +4
- Evil side: Warg +1, Warg +2, Warg +3, White Warg +4
Mount bonuses:
- +1 mount: +5 speed
- +2 mount: +15 speed (total)
- +3 mount: +30 speed (total)
- +4 special mount: +60 speed and +10 brave (total)
The special +4 White Horse / White Warg can be obtained from the Rescue group quest instance.
Skill titles
Stable Hand → Herd Keeper → Shepherd → Master Veterinarian → Lord of Dragons (at the highest tier).
In combat
Animal Taming gives a modest but reliable bonus to your fighting power in PvP and murder. It is not as impactful as Hunting or Smithing, but experienced tamers still hit a little harder in close fights. Think of it as the reward for mastering the stables and the skies, not the primary murder stat.
Tips
- Train regularly before attempting dragon taming.
- Keep dragon health high; a neglected dragon may flee back to the caves.
- Prairie Clover supreme harvests grant permanent +5 Animal Taming.
