Shield-brother (kalkan-kardeş) is a lifelong bond between two player characters. You invite someone by name, they accept on the Shield-brother screen, and you share combat bonuses, travel protection, a private chat channel, and the Rallying Horn until the bond ends.
Open Character → Shield-brother (next to Racial Traits and Guards) to manage invites and your bond. Private messages about invites or rallying calls only link to that screen.
One slot, same side
- Each character may have one active shield-brother at a time.
- Both must be on the same faction (good or evil).
- Different races and different alliances are allowed.
While both of you are alive, the bond cannot be broken voluntarily, except after an inactive bondmate (below) or when you close a vengeance chapter after murder.
Fair play and alt accounts
Shield-brother is meant for separate players, not multiple characters controlled by the same person. If the game treats two accounts as linked under Fair Play Rules, they cannot form a shield-brother bond.
Invites
- Enter a character name and send an invite (one confirmation, with a link to this page).
- The invitee accepts or declines on the Shield-brother screen (accept needs two confirmations because the bond is permanent while you both live).
- Pending invites expire after 24 hours.
You cannot invite while you already have a bond, while a vengeance chapter is open, or while the target is unavailable.
Murder is forbidden between bondmates
Shield-brothers cannot murder each other. This is separate from heir +25% vengeance in Murder; shield-brother +10% power applies only under the vengeance rules below.
Same city: tiered armor
With an active bond and both alive in the same city, each of you gains flat armor in combat. The game uses your partner's recent activity (not your own):
| Partner last activity (same city) | Flat armor |
|---|---|
| Within 1 hour | +30 |
| Within 24 hours | +20 |
| Within 72 hours | +10 |
| Older than 72 hours | 0 |
Different cities → 0 armor from this rule.
Bond bar
The Bond bar on the Shield-brother screen is a visual hint only (see the in-game info popover). It does not add power beyond the armor table.
Rallying Horn
From the Shield-brother screen, you can call your partner to your city. They must accept there (not from messages). Calls last 10 minutes; the caller gets one successful horn per server day. Not available during a vengeance chapter or if you are already in the same city. Accepting teleports the partner instantly with full health and no normal travel damage.
Travel welcome
When you travel into a city where your living shield-brother already is, travel damage is waived and your health is set to 100.
If your shield-brother dies by murder
The bond ends. You enter a vengeance chapter: you cannot take a new shield-brother yet, you may fight the killer with +10% power while they remain an active character, and you receive a private message with what happened. When the killer is no longer active, you can close the chapter on the Shield-brother screen and invite someone new. You cannot close it while the killer still lives.
Inactive bondmate (15+ days)
If your partner is alive but has not played for more than 15 days, you may break the bond from the Shield-brother screen (no vengeance chapter).
Shield-brother chat
With an active bond, a private channel appears on Chat for the two of you only. It closes when the bond ends.
Profile
Active shield-brothers are shown on each other's profiles as a linked name.
